A kitchen remodel can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $60,000+. As always, it depends on the details. DIY homeowners can keep that cost under $10,000 by doing the work themselves, and keeping the changes minimal. Such as replacing cabinet hardware, painting cabinets, and doing little else. Those simple changes can have a huge effect on the appearance of your kitchen. But it’s not the same as a full kitchen remodel. And you’re not here because you want to paint your cabinets. So let’s explore some common aspects of a 10×10 kitchen remodel, and how to save on those costs below. If you’d like to find out how long your kitchen remodel will take, click here.

How do I Prepare For the Cost of a 10×10 Kitchen Remodel?

It really depends on what you need to get out of the remodel, and your budget. These two things never align perfectly, and sacrifices have to be made.

First, sit down and decide what you can’t live without in your new kitchen. A new oven? New backsplash? New cabinetry? Everyone’s needs are different. Get a list going.

Second, determine your budget, and be sure to allow a cushion for unforeseen expenses. Every kitchen remodel holds some surprises. Be prepared for that.

Third, estimate the costs of those things you can’t live without. Does the total fall under your budget and leave some room for surprises? If so, great, you’re on your way. If not, how can you save some money? Can you forgo some of the changes you’d like to make, such as new appliances, until a later date? You might choose to DIY some parts of the project to save on labor costs.

Fourth, contact a reputable contractor to get a detailed estimate. Now you know exactly where you are in your budget versus dream kitchen battle, and can make definite changes to bring the kitchen remodel under budget. Here at Flooring Masters, we don’t sell materials or fixtures, but we can connect you with our suppliers, as well as the discount that they provide, to save on the cost of your kitchen remodel.

How Does Design Affect the Cost of a 10×10 Kitchen Remodel?

This will have a huge impact on the cost of your remodel. If you are looking to keep costs as low as possible, the easiest path is to keep your kitchen layout the same. Relocating gas connections is an added expense. Relocating electrical connections is an added expense. Building a breakfast bar is an added expense, and adds another space to cover with a new countertop. Adding or removing walls will add a lot to the cost of your kitchen remodel. Keep the changes to the design of your kitchen minimal, and avoid needing plumbers and electricians to stay within your budget.

Do I Need a Designer?

An experienced kitchen remodeling company can assist you with your new kitchen design. We have worked with countless customers to design their new kitchens, but many others choose to hire a kitchen designer, or work with the designer from a cabinet company. The choice is yours.

How Much Does Flooring Cost for a 10×10 Kitchen Remodel?

We always recommend tile for kitchen flooring. It is durable, and provides nearly unlimited design choices. If you want the look of hardwood, without the worries about moisture problems, wood like tile planks are the perfect option. If you want that look without the cost of tile, luxury vinyl plank that looks just like hardwood is the perfect option.

Backsplash

We recommend subway tile for your kitchen backsplash, and it is the most popular choice. Subway tile provides a ton of options that can compliment any kitchen design. However, if you are looking to save, you may choose to DIY some peel and stick tile, or choose a budget material like tin or bead board. Don’t let these budget options fool you. They have a lower cost, but still look great and last for years.

Cabinets

The biggest cost consideration for your kitchen remodel is the cabinets. If you want custom, modern cabinets with high quality hardware, this will balloon the cost of your 10×10 kitchen remodel more than any of the other furnishings, appliances, or materials. Custom cabinets take a lot of time and preparation to build and install. However, you can save on the cost of new cabinets by choosing to simply update the hardware, and paint them. If you intend to paint your cabinets yourself, we have to warn you that it is a lot of work. They have to be removed from the kitchen, cleaned thoroughly, and sanded down before paint can be applied. Unless you want to paint them every few months because of bubbling, peeling, and chipping.

Countertops

Natural stone countertops are great, but do they fit within your budget? Did you consider the maintenance of keeping them sealed? They’re gorgeous, but they’re costly in both budget and time. Consider some beautiful alternatives that will fit your budget. Concrete with a slick finish gives the look and feel of stone without taking such a big bite out of the budget. Stainless steel countertops are gorgeous and perfectly match stainless steel appliances. They’re durable, and very low maintenance. Laminate countertops duplicate the look of stone at a fraction of the cost.

Appliances

New appliances are always nice. Buying smart appliances that you can control with your phone may be a priority for your kitchen remodel. But once again, if you are looking to save, consider keeping your existing appliances. Will they work with the new design? Are you planning to relocate any of your major appliances? That will inflate the cost of your 10×10 kitchen remodel. You may be able to find some deeply discounted refurbished appliances that come with a warranty to reduce your costs.

Fixtures

Don’t forget your sink fixture and basin. This is a difficult cost to reduce or avoid. Faucets have moving parts that wear out, and need to be replaced from time to time. Sink basins become scratched and stained. However, if you get a high quality, long lasting sink fixture and basin for your kitchen remodel today, you may not ever need to purchase another.
